Dashboard

Dashboard is the open module when a user logs into BSI. The Dashboard allows users to easily access some information from across several modules on one page.  The module contains the BSI News widget and any additional available widgets the user adds to the page. The first time a user opens the Dashboard, the Tips widget will automatically be displayed next to the BSI News widget.

The News widget contains important notices from the BSI team about upcoming downtimes, releases, and support holiday hours. It is updated hourly.

Available widgets are listed under the "+" icon in the upper right corner of the module. They are separated into three categories: Assigned To, Miscellaneous, and Reports. Under these three categories, the following widgets are available:

BSI News

This widget shows the most recent news posted by BSI. It is not deletable from the Dashboard.BSI News Widget

Tips Widget

Tips

This widget scrolls through a selection of tips to help the user operate BSI modules. When Dashboard is opened for the first time, this widget will be visible. It is deletable. The widget may only be added to the Dashboard if it is not already currently in view on the page.Tips Widget

Assigned To Widgets

Assigned To

These widgets are each associated with a particular module: Kits, Shipments, Data Entry or Requisitions. They show up to 100 batches currently assigned to the user and to any User Team(s) that the user is a part of. The widgets are sortable and the display fields can be shown/hidden. The widget associated with each module can only be added to view if it is not already in view.Assigned To Widgets

Example: Professor Ivy helps Giovanni set his dashboard to show all Data Entry batches assigned to him to complete in BSI, as well as a pie chart displaying the average hours of sleep each subject reports receiving each night, which he will be responsible for tracking.

Chart Report Widgets

Chart Reports

This widget can be toggled between pie chart and bar graph views. The chart or graph is generated from defined and saved reports in the user's Reports directory. The display fields are the same as the display fields in the report. Selecting part of a pie chart or bar graph will open a dialog displaying a list of all items in that portion of the graph. This widget can be displayed multiple times on the Dashboard at once for the same or different reports.Chart Reports Widgets

Example: Whitney’s Dashboard, since she will be primarily responsible for recording data, is set up to display a bar graph containing relevant phenotypical data on each subject and a pie chart showing the number of hours sleep each subject estimates per night.

Listing Report Widgets

Listing Reports

This widget lists up to 100 items from a defined and saved report in the user's Reports directory. The display fields are the same as the display fields in the report. This widget can be displayed multiple times on the Dashboard at once for the same or different reports.Listing Reports Widgets

Example: Professor Ivy sets Blaine’s Dashboard to show the requisition batches assigned to him to complete and a report listing every available specimen in her study, which he will use to select specific specimens for processing.

Dashboard widgets can be added and rearranged on the page.

Any Batch ID or BSI ID listed on the Dashboard can be selected. Once clicked, a new window will open displaying the items. If the user has permission and the items are editable, they will open in Edit Mode. If they are not editable, items will open in View Mode.

From the Dashboard, users can add, delete, refresh and move widgets. Users can change widget view options and change reports criteria.

Widgets can be set by applying a Dashboard Template in User Preferences. If you already have applied a Dashboard Template, you can still modify your dashboard, but it may be overwritten if the template is modified. Read here (link) for more information on Dashboard Templates.

Example: Professor Ivy has several graduate students helping her with her study on exhaustion and fainting. She teaches each student how to set up their BSI Dashboard to see the most relevant data each student will need.
